Route 66 Mother Road Festival - ONE AWESOME NIGHT

Last night was the Route 66 Mother Road Festival dowtown in grand old Springpatch. We had such an awesome time. The crowd was great and the weather was great! It was just one PERFECT night and performance. (One news channel estimated 30,000 people downtown on Saturday bringing the 3 day estimate up to 70,000! That info. will look good in the Promo Pack!!)

Thornhill started the evening. What can I say about Thornhill that I haven't already said? They kick ass. Major ass. They are truely a great original band with awesome songs. They sound great live and I, for one, could listen to them for hours. They did a great version of Tom Petty's Refugee, and they even threw in my favorite - These Boots Are Made For Walkin'.

When we took the stage we had a little surprise for people - Our guest drummer for the evening was PATTY FREAKIN' KNISS. Yep, Thornhill's very own Patty sat in with us to cover for the missing Stan. (Don't worry Stan is still with us. He's out of the country on business until early October.) Patty was a champion. She pulled off those songs like she had been playing with us forever! We never even practiced one song with her. She is an awesome drummer to say the least. ---- Another of my musical dreams came true last night when I got to play with Patty. I have remarked to people for several years now that I would love to have a chance to play with Patty. She always sounds great, and she has a blast behind the kit. She's always smiling and having a great time. THANKS PATTY!!!! I owe you pizza and beer!!!!!!!!

Another great surprise on the evening was SAMMY ROAN from PopRocks drove all the way up from Effingham to catch our sets! I was not expecting that at all. What a great surprise. THANKS SAMMY for making the trip for little ole' MW!! (Don't forget April 5th, 2008 when MW plays with PopRocks at the PARTY OF THE YEAR!!!!)

Another nice surprise was looking out in to the crowd and seeing all of the people sporting MW shirts! That kind of shocked the shit out of me. People really seem to like those alien shirts. I know we have sold a ton of them, (I’m on the 3rd re-order), but I guess it didn’t hit me until I saw how many people were wearing them. Thanks to all that have purchased shirts!

Both Thornhill and MW were asked by the Springfield Film Commission's Stage Event Planner to play at next year's Route 66 Festival. We must have done something good, huh?!?

By the way – Tina and I both worked very hard in order for our two bands to even be able to pull off this event. (Story for some other time!) Tina found the major piece that made it all possible.  Thanks Tina. This was really an experience wasn't it? Hopefully our next event together won't be so crazy!!

Special shout outs and BIG THANKS to:

Dean – Providing the sound system

Kevin Smith – Mixing MW's sets

Susan Verardi – Fan Club President, T-shirt pusher & poster board designer, pictures/videos

Sammy Roan – Our newest MW groupie

Cheryl Thomas  - Leading us & Thornhill to the Route 66 Festival

Thornhill – YOU KICK ASS! WE CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY WITH YOU AGAIN & AGAIN!

Stan Komperda
Stan Komperda will be taking over as drummer. You can catch Stan performing at the Mt. Pulaski Fall Festival September 7th. We are so excited to have Stan join us for Mt. Pulaski. Stan not only plays drums he also plays bass and guitar. MW looks forward to him adding lead and backing vocals. Yes!!!! The long awaited male vocals!

Stan has played with bands such as F5 & Filthy Johansen.

MW would like to thank Kevin Smith for introducing us to Stan! THANKS KEVIN!!

Thank You!!
MW wishes to thank all of the people that have been lighting up our myspace page & e-mail box since playing in Odell's Battle of the Bands Contest on July 28.   I keep receiving requests to enter the Mother's Worry Club. I can't accept any new members at this time because the club has reached its limit. As people drop out I will be able to add you if you wish to stay on the waiting list.

Odell

The Unemployed Architects won a very hard fought battle of the bands contest on July 29th in downtown Odell. We had a blast playing, and we met a lot of great and very talented musicians from the northern Illinois area. (Take a look at some of the comments on our myspace site and check out some of these fine bands.)

We had so many compliments on our new drummer Mike! He kicked ass last night and we are very happy to have a talented person like him with us. Great job Mike!!!

Everyone in the crowd enjoyed 99 Red Balloons. (Even one of the Bands complimented us for our “kick ass rockin’ version” when they were on stage.) Thanks to Kathy and Susan for getting the people lined up with the balloons for the launch at the end of the song. I also want to thank all of our new younger fans from Odell that helped us out with vocals during Girlfriend. You girls rocked!

I was surprised, but happy, to be asked if we might be interested in headlining Odell’s 2008 festival for their street dance that takes place on Friday night. I will keep you all informed on the outcome.

Thanks to Susan we have some great pictures of last night and I will get them uploaded here and on our myspace site. I will also be posting more about the contest on our message board, so check that out also.

I want to thank the following people:

Wendi – Running a great contest

Troy – Roadie duties

Laura Pitchford – Fan support

Lynna Thornhill – Fan support, and for surviving the very long ride in the van with Beth and I. THORNHILL RULES!!

Leigh Troyer – Fan support

Ron Troyer – Fan support

Susan – Selling T-shirts, taking pictures, helping with the balloons, passing out bumper stickers, business cards and demo CD’s. She’s the best Fan Club President ever!!

ALL OF OUR NEW FRIENDS AND FANS – THANKS FOR THE VOTES. WE REALLY APPRECIATED THE SUPPORT AND KIND WORDS!
